Issigeac summer night market
- Create your own feast: Local farmers, artisans, and winemakers set up stalls selling fresh, ready-to-eat regional dishes. You can buy everything from duck confit, foie gras, and paella to local cheeses, artisanal burgers, and desserts.
- Communal dining: Long wooden tables and benches are set up under the stars. You simply find a seat, graze from different stalls, and pair your food with local Bergerac wines or craft beers.
- The “BYO” insider rule: While the food and drink are bought on-site, it is a local custom to bring your own plates, cutlery, and wine glasses to reduce waste and stay authentic.
- Festive and social: The market begins around 7:00 PM and runs until 11:00 PM. It has a lively, multi-generational, holiday atmosphere where locals and tourists mix.
- Live entertainment: Each week features a different live musical act or band playing in the square, providing a soundtrack to your dinner.
- Artisanal souvenirs: Alongside the food vendors, a handful of local craftsmen and artists sell unique, handmade souvenirs.
Planning your stay around local events
There is always something happening around Le Petit Capelier. Issigeac’s famous Sunday market takes over the medieval village every week, while Bergerac, Eymet, Villeréal and Castillonnès host regular markets, brocantes, concerts, exhibitions and festivals throughout the year.
During the summer, look out for marchés gourmands and village fêtes, where long communal tables, local food, Bergerac wines and live music make for wonderfully relaxed evenings. The vineyards around Monbazillac and Bergerac also host tastings, concerts and special events throughout the season.
We update this calendar regularly as new events are announced, including some of the smaller local happenings that can be surprisingly difficult to discover online.
