We have a rare late-summer opening at Le Petit Capelier from 23 August to 2 September — and it happens to be a particularly lovely time to be here.

The August crowds are beginning to thin, the days are still long and warm, the pool is waiting, and the villages around us are still very much in summer mode and flights are becoming less costly as the children return to school…

🎬 25 August · Cinéma Voyageur · Issigeac

Spend an evening at the travelling cinema in medieval Issigeac. Films are shown under canvas during the early evening before everyone moves outside, settles into deckchairs and watches an open-air screening as darkness falls.

🍷 26 August · Marché Gourmand · Montaut

One of our favourite kinds of French summer evening. Local producers set up around the village, everyone chooses what they’d like to eat and drink, then sits together at long communal tables in the park behind the church, with live music into the evening.

🎭 28 August · La Fête de l’Été · Plaisance

Right here in our own commune, La Moulinette hosts its Fête de l’Été: street theatre and acrobatics, food and drinks, followed by live music, Comorian rock, electro-cumbia and dancing.

🥐 Sunday mornings · The Issigeac Market

Just a few minutes from Le Petit Capelier, the medieval streets of Issigeac are taken over every Sunday morning by one of the Dordogne’s great markets.

Go early, wander through stalls piled with fruit, vegetables, cheeses, charcuterie, bread and local wines — then find a café table and watch the village go by.

And between all that?

You don’t have to do very much at all.

Have a long lunch. Visit a vineyard. Explore a bastide village. Drive through the countryside with nowhere particular in mind.

Or simply stay at home.

Swim in our private 12m × 5m pool, find a shady spot with a book, open a bottle of Bergerac wine and watch the sun disappear over the countryside.
