Booking flights to Bergerac is the exciting part of planning a Dordogne holiday. The next question is a practical one: how do you get from Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Airport to your accommodation near Issigeac? Here is our straightforward guide to car hire, taxis and planning a relaxed arrival at Le Petit Capelier.

Arriving at Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Airport

Bergerac Airport (EGC), just outside Bergerac, is a convenient arrival point for the southern Dordogne and the neighbouring bastide towns of the Lot-et-Garonne. It is a small regional airport, but it is still sensible to leave time for baggage, hire-car paperwork and getting your bearings before setting off.

More UK visitors may be coming this way in 2027: Jet2 has announced summer Saturday flights from Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds Bradford. For departure details, see our separate guide to the new Bergerac flights.

Hiring a car at Bergerac Airport

For most guests planning to explore the markets, vineyards and villages around Issigeac, we recommend hiring a car. The airport’s official website currently lists six providers: Buggs Car Hire, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Avis. Compare their terms before booking rather than assuming every provider has identical opening hours, deposit requirements or vehicle availability.

Particularly for a family or group, check the luggage capacity as carefully as the number of seats. If you need a child seat, an automatic car or an additional driver, request it before travelling. Ask what happens if your flight is delayed, and make sure your collection and return times match your flights.

For the latest operator information see the official Bergerac Airport car-hire page.

Can you travel by taxi or public transport?

A pre-arranged taxi or private transfer may suit guests who do not intend to drive, although it is worth considering how you will shop and explore once you arrive. Confirm the pickup point, total fare, luggage allowance and any child seats directly with the operator in advance.

There are regional bus links serving Bergerac and surrounding destinations, but they are not a direct, frequent door-to-door airport shuttle to Le Petit Capelier. Some services calling at the airport require advance reservation. Bus routes, operating days and connections can change, so check current arrangements with the airport and the regional transport operator before relying on them. We would not recommend assuming a bus will meet an arriving flight without checking the timetable.

Driving towards Issigeac and Le Petit Capelier

Once you have collected your vehicle, the journey towards Issigeac takes you out into the countryside rather than into a large city. Allow comfortable time rather than racing a clock: minor rural roads can be unfamiliar on a first visit, and navigation may be slower after dark.

We provide the precise directions to Le Petit Capelier separately to confirmed guests. Save them offline before leaving the airport, especially if your phone will be using a new roaming connection. If you are due to arrive in the evening, let us know your expected arrival time so we can help you plan a smooth check-in.

A few sensible arrival-day preparations

Make time to explore after you arrive

Le Petit Capelier sleeps up to six guests and has a generous 12 × 5 metre swimming pool — a lovely place to settle in after your journey. With a car, the region opens up beautifully: markets near Issigeac and Bergerac, the surrounding bastide villages and Bergerac and Monbazillac wine country are all reasons to linger rather than rush.
