Così fan tutte — Live from the Metropolitan Opera, Villeréal

October 3 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Mozart comes to Villeréal with a live big-screen transmission of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Così fan tutte from New York.

Phelim McDermott’s colourful staging transports Mozart’s romantic comedy to a 1950s Coney Island amusement park — an unusually ambitious cultural evening for a small bastide town.

For visitors staying at Le Petit Capelier, this is one of those rather wonderful rural-France surprises: an evening at the Met, watched from one of our neighbouring medieval bastide towns.

Whether you already love opera or have never seen one before, Così fan tutte is an approachable choice. Mozart combines glorious ensemble writing and memorable arias with a story that is essentially a sophisticated romantic comedy.

Planning your stay around local events

There is always something happening around Le Petit Capelier. Issigeac’s famous Sunday market takes over the medieval village every week, while Bergerac, Eymet, Villeréal and Castillonnès host regular markets, brocantes, concerts, exhibitions and festivals throughout the year.

During the summer, look out for marchés gourmands and village fêtes, where long communal tables, local food, Bergerac wines and live music make for wonderfully relaxed evenings. The vineyards around Monbazillac and Bergerac also host tastings, concerts and special events throughout the season.

We update this calendar regularly as new events are announced, including some of the smaller local happenings that can be surprisingly difficult to discover online.
